Museums & Galleries Edinburgh offer a wide range of voluntary roles including visitor engagement, collections care and documentation, historical research, community outreach, schools and learning, gardening, digital and events roles.
Museums & Galleries volunteering opportunities
We are currently looking for new volunteers to help us maintain our Museum of Edinburgh courtyard.
The Museum of Edinburgh courtyard is an oasis of calm next to the Royal Mile. It contains stone fragments from some of Edinburgh’s oldest buildings that are no longer standing, as well as a variety of plants, flowers and herbs.
Courtyard volunteers help to maintain and develop the courtyard garden as a pleasant and welcoming public space.

Please note that some of our volunteer roles attract a high number of applicants. When deciding between candidates with similar levels of interest, enthusiasm and experience, preference will be given to candidates who live, work or study in Edinburgh. As a local authority museum service, our first duty is to the people of Edinburgh and so we aim to ensure that they have the best access to our volunteering opportunities.
