John Henry Lorimer painted his portrait of Dame Sarah Elizabeth Siddons Mair in 1928. It is currently on display in the exhibition 'Reflections, the Light and Life of John Henry Lorimer'. Dame Sarah Elizabeth Siddons Mair was an ardent campaigner for women’s rights and was the chairperson of the Scottish Federation Society for Suffrage. In 2021, Edinburgh Living History, our group of volunteer costumed performers, produced a video that outlined the conflicting views of Edinburgh residents to the campaign for “Votes for Women”.
