Plastic is all around us, and we often take it for granted. But what about plastic objects in museum collections? How do museums make sure plastics stand the test of time? How can you look after your vintage rexine radio, childhood toys or vinyl print t-shirts?
Join Collections Care Officer Gwen Thomas as she looks at some of the common problems we have with caring for, and storing, plastics. We’ll also offer some guidance on how you can protect the plastic objects you wish to preserve for the future.
The session will comprise a short film looking at interventions in, and storage of, a range of plastic items from Museums & Galleries Edinburgh’s diverse collections. We will then host a live Q&A where we invite you to share some of your fantastic plastic objects for Gwen’s consideration!
Please note this workshop is not about restoration of objects.
