2020 saw 100 years since Leith became part of the City of Edinburgh; prior to that it was a separate burgh. Since we were not able to run these in person during 2020 we are celebrating them this year. Our talks programme explores the rich heritage of Leith and its unique identity.
For most of the last century Leith was the scene of demolitions and dispersals, a vacancy where heroin easily found a home. Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting, now indelibly part of Leith’s legacy with international recognition, deserves more credit and study than it gets. Tim Bell will explore how Leith is presented. Tim Bell is author of the acclaimed CHOOSE LIFE. CHOOSE LEITH: Trainspotting on Location and the ever-popular Trainspotting tours.
Please note that this presentation contains direct quotes from Irvine Welsh's book 'Trainspotting' and the film by Danny Boyle, including very strong language. People viewing this who are below the age of 18 years should have parental consent.
