The artist Adam Bruce Thomson produced many artworks showcasing the City of Edinburgh in the 1930s. This complementary lecture by our regular speaker Jackie Sangster from Scran will illustrate archive material which documents aspects of 1930s Edinburgh. We'll take a look at life in the city, local examples of Art Deco architecture and plunge into an all new, Portobello pool. Along the way we'll explore how technology and transport was evolving, and how this impacted on the day- to-day lives of Edinburghers; the fashions they followed, challenges they faced and how they sought fun in their leisure time.
Jackie Sangster is Learning Manager at Historic Environment Scotland who works with archival records including Scran.ac.uk.
