Keynote lecture by Susan Mansfield

For the last two decades, Peter Howson’s art has focussed on two main themes: religious painting and scenes from the apocalypse. These subjects might seem distant from us in today’s world. However, looking more closely at them, we begin to see that Howson uses the End of Days as a means to address the times in which we live.

Susan Mansfield is a writer and journalist. She has been writing about the arts and literature in Scotland for almost 30 years and has been an art critic for The Scotsman newspaper since 2007. She was a staff writer for The Scotsman from 2001 until 2013, working as an interviewer and feature writer with a particular interest in the arts. She is also a poet and playwright and was the joint winner of the Jack Clemo National Poetry Award in 2018.
