You are invited to meet the residents and staff of the castle in 1905 who are discussing the origins and traditions of Halloween in Scotland. Mrs Reid, a keen photographer, is amazed by the work of some photographers using double exposures techniques whilst Mr Barton, her brother, has heard that some households in the nearby village are holding Halloween themed parties and wonders if they could hold such a celebration in Lauriston! Mrs Mackay, the housekeeper has asked Alexander, the gardener, to carve a turnip lantern as this is a tradition that she remembers from growing up in Durness in the North of Scotland. In addition the new maid is rather frazzled as she has been sent to find Mrs Reid’s black cat who has gone missing and she has heard some strange tapping noises coming from the secret staircase in Mr Reid’s study!
Edinburgh Living History are our multi award- winning team, who interpret the history of the castle in a variety of entertaining ways in Edwardian costume - bringing alive the history of the house. Each performance is carefully devised by Edinburgh Living History to be as historically accurate as possible and include a touch of drama and a soupcon of humour. You will walk through the Castle on a special tour watching the performance unfold. Why not make a day of it at Lauriston and have some lunch at Mimi’s café on site.
