We have created a special tour of the Castle as a digital presentation in our Maids’ Hall to provide step-free access to the Castle. This will offer step-free access for those with limited mobility. Some of our costumed performers will serve you some tea and cake and you will be transported back to Edwardian times. You can have an opportunity to try on some hats and other Edwardian-style accessories and learn about the life of the downstairs staff. You will also get a chance to see some special films about the Castle.

Please note although the Maids’ Hall is all on one level, we have no accessible toilet in the Castle. There is an accessible toilet in the grounds a short distance from the Castle.

The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.

Edinburgh Living History are our multi award- winning team, who interpret the history of the castle in a variety of entertaining ways in Edwardian costume - bringing alive the history of the house. Each performance is carefully devised by Edinburgh Living History to be as historically accurate as possible and include a touch of drama and a soupçon of humour. Why not make a day of it at Lauriston and have some lunch at Mimi’s café on site.

A welcome to Lauriston Castle Global Accessibility Awareness Day (Thursday 15 May)
