A Time and Place
Cat Outram’s practice since 1981 has centred largely on images of Edinburgh. She is particularly drawn to the way the city sits in its landscape. For her submission to the Scottish Landscape Awards, Cat knew she wanted the view from Salisbury Crags towards the Forth estuary. She visited several times drawing from this angle until she finally found herself there on the day the Queen’s cortege left Holyrood. The Queen’s death was a significant moment, suitably acknowledged, but in the grand scheme, really only a very small thing. As an artist Cat Outram is interested in our place in the world, our significance and how light our footprint is.
