Peter Howson is one of the premier religious painters of the postmodern era. But what place does religious art have in an increasingly secular world? How do artists working today approach religious themes, and does art still offer a space in which to consider life’s big questions? Writer and art critic Susan Mansfield is joined by a panel of experts to open up the subject of religious art today.
Susan Mansfield is a writer and journalist. She has been writing about the arts and literature in Scotland for almost 30 years and has been an art critic for The Scotsman newspaper since 2007. She was a staff writer for The Scotsman from 2001 until 2013, working as an interviewer and feature writer with a particular interest in the arts. She is also a poet and playwright and was the joint winner of the Jack Clemo National Poetry Award in 2018.
