In the exhibition Will Maclean - Points of Departure, images associated with boats, the sea and objects connected with coastal life are a frequent inspiration. In the first stream, artist Tessa Asquith-Lamb will explore these themes in selections from the artist’s work, and in the second stream she will show you how to construct a boat sculpture using found objects and driftwood referencing the evocative story of the St Kilda mailboats. These small wooden boats held mail from the island community of St Kilda and were sent out to sea in the hope that they’d reach the mainland, and their messages would be eventually delivered. In reference to this we will hide within our boat sculpture a hidden letter to someone in the future.
