Mary Cameron (1865-1921) was a contemporary of Hornel, who engaged with photography throughout her life. On her travels around Spain in the early 20th century, she collected photographs as source material for her paintings. She also recognised the value of photography in promoting her career, using studio portraits to assert her distinctive professional identity. Drawing from new research into Cameron’s photographic archive, this lecture offers fresh insights into a fascinating artist. Dr Helen Scott is Curator of Fine Art at the City Art Centre, and author of Mary Cameron: Life in Paint.
