Belinda Thomson is an independent scholar and Honorary Professor in art history at the University of Edinburgh. A specialist in the art of Paul Gauguin and his contemporaries, she instigated the project and chaired the committee behind the 2004 exhibition Patrick Geddes: the French Connection (Institut français d'Ecosse and Scottish National Portrait Gallery) in which the role of Charles Mackie was explored.
