In 2018-19, the National Galleries of Scotland presented a major display of work by the Glasgow-based artist Monster Chetwynd, who was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2012. Alice Strang will reveal how Chetwynd is re-defining the very notion of sculpture, from wall-mounted structures - which include sculptural elements which have been, or will be used in her performances and which sometimes spill out into the surrounding gallery space – to the 2019 performance Prolific Potato, inspired by the Galleries’ holding of works by the sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi. Alice Strang is a Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS). She co-curated Chetwynd’s exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and was responsible for the delivery of her performance Prolific Potato, the first such work of art to be commissioned by the NGS, with support from The Ampersand Foundation and The Eduardo Paolozzi Foundation.
