Our shoes tell stories. They tell of days in the fields and nights on the dancefloor; of hard work and leisure; of thrift and extravagance. This small exhibition explores shoes worn by brewers and babies, servicewomen and music fans, members of high society and everyday people, from the mid-19th century to the 1980s. Together, they provide a glimpse into other lives.

The exhibited shoes come from Museums & Galleries Edinburgh’s exceptional costume collection, which spans the 18th to 21st centuries. Most of the shoes have never been displayed before. Until 24 April 2020.
