Museums & Galleries Edinburgh collections hold some remarkable objects which tell the story of Scotland’s turbulent past. This talk will take you through the key moments of Edinburgh’s history from the National Covenant of 1638 to the suppression of the Highlands after the defeat of the Jacobite Rebellion in 1746. Along the way, we will explore some of the recent discoveries curators at the city museums have made as part of the Auld Reekie Retold project.
Nico Tyack is Collections Information Officer at Museums & Galleries Edinburgh and also managed the Auld Reekie Retold inventory project. During his time at Museums & Galleries Edinburgh, Nico has got to know the collections very well, and has developed a special interest in the incredibly complicated 17th Century in Scotland. In this talk, Nico will bring along some of the manuscripts from the collections.
